Board Meetings

PHSA holds five open board meetings per year.
About the meetings

PHSA's Board of Directors holds five pre-scheduled meetings each year. Each board meeting includes both open and in camera sessions, unless the Board determines otherwise.

The time and location of the next scheduled board meeting are publicized at least 30 days before the meeting date and an agenda is posted seven days prior to the meeting. Members of the public may attend in-person or virtually, viewing proceedings via the webcast link at the top of each agenda.

Members of the public have the opportunity to make presentations to the Board before each open board meeting. The Board will also respond to written questions from the public. Depending on the number of public presentations and questions, the board meeting start time may be adjusted.

Questions that are within the mandate of the PHSA Board are accepted in advance following the procedures for questions and answers.

  • November 24, 2022 (Open board meeting)
    • On Nov. 24, a former employee attended the PHSA open board meeting to share her views on mandatory COVID-19 vaccination for health-care workers. We acknowledge the challenge that the provincial public health order on mandatory COVID-19 vaccination has presented to individuals who exercised their personal right to decline vaccination; as a public sector health care organization we have a legal obligation to uphold this order. Further, we are confident in the scientific and epidemiological evidence that informed the order and stand by it as an important public health intervention critical to protecting the health of staff, medical staff, and the patients and families we serve. We encourage all health-care professionals to maintain their vaccinations, including getting COVID-19 booster shots as well as annual influenza vaccinations.

Presentations/Q&A

At each open board meeting, a public presentation session is scheduled which provides an opportunity for persons or groups to address the Board. As well, there is a scheduled public question-and-answer (Q&A) period where the Board responds to written questions submitted by members of the public.

The availability of the public presentation and question-and-answer periods are advertised prior to each open board meeting in addition to being posted on PHSA's website. Depending on the number of requests for public presentations and questions submitted, the open board meeting may begin earlier than scheduled.

Questions are accepted in advance following the procedures for questions and answers.

Pre-registration is required for public presentations. Persons or groups wanting to present to the Board - on matters within the scope of the PHSA Board - must make their request in writing by completing the request to address the Board form and submitting it prior to the date noted on the right in the "Addressing the board" section.

Information required on the form is: name of the presenter, the group/delegation they represent (if applicable) and a 200- to 300-word summary of the presentation.

Persons or groups wanting to ask questions of the Board must submit their question(s) in writing. Questions within the mandate of the PHSA Board will be forwarded to the Chair for consideration.

Questions must be submitted:

  • By 4:30 p.m. two business days prior to the board meeting to the attention of the following person: PHSA board liaison & executive administrator (email: Board.Office@phsa.ca, mail: PHSA, 200-1333 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC V6H 4C1)
At the meeting:
  • The Board Chair will read the submitted question(s) and respond or direct the question to leadership for response.
  • Board and leadership will answer questions based on the order in which they were received.
  • Board and leadership will endeavour to answer questions during the sessions; in circumstances where more information is required to answer a question, a written response will be provided at a later date.
  • The Board Chair may, at their discretion, extend the time allocated to the public question-and-answer period.
