Value Analysis Teams

A value analysis team (VAT) is a group of like-minded and passionate health care professionals that come together to tackle clinical and sourcing issues on a provincial level. The teams consist of clinicians and operations leaders representing all BC health authorities as well as supply chain clinical coordinators and sourcing specialists.

The purpose of VATs is to optimize safety and quality of patient care, improve patient outcomes and reduce costs through a collaborative approach to product and service utilization decisions.

VAT objectives

  • Alignment of patient care delivery strategies with provincial sourcing strategies
  • Product improvement enabling care pathway enhancement, safety, efficiency, and standardization
  • Achievement of best practices through continuous dialogue and research supported by timely data analysis
  • Review and evaluate new innovations allowing health authorities to determine interest and assess clinical requirements to match new innovations to gaps in health care, thus aligning practice change with the introduction of new or alternate technologies. For more information, please review PHSA's Innovation Intake program details
  • Facilitation of the procurement of sustainable products that promote planetary health alongside a focus on supporting Indigenous economic reconciliation and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission calls to action
  • Facilitation, prioritization and enabling of expressions of interest and special needs
  • Facilitation of root cause analysis for contract and practice compliance variations
