Student Practice Education

These pages will help you prepare for a practicum, and understand the student placement process at PHSA and its programs.

Welcome, students and faculty!

If you have a confirmed placement with us, you can get orientation information and tasks here. These should be completed before you arrive at your placement site and will help you to:
  • understand key policies
  • meet confidentiality requirements
  • learn about your placement site

1Orientation for all BC health authorities

Complete the Student Practice Education Core Orientation (SPECO)

The SPECO Curriculum on the Learning Hub provides the core suite of orientation modules that all students are required to complete prior to their placement at any BC health authority.

To complete SPECO, you will need to create a 'student' Learning Hub account, using your school-based email address. The LearningHub account will maintain a record of your health authority learning, continuing into employment.

2Orientation for PHSA

Second, complete the PHSA Student Orientation.

If you do not have a placement at PHSA or to learn how placements at PHSA are coordinated, please go to Placement Coordination.

3Additional PHSA resources

The following are additional resources and learning opportunities during your placement at PHSA:

The Virtual Health Competency Framework is a foundational practice resource that can help all health care team members to deliver safe, appropriate and effective virtual health. ‎

The BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services Concurrent Disorders Toolkit is a resource designed for a range of health care team members who work with individuals with concurrent mental health and substance use issues and their families.‎
