Whether it's supporting her team, strategizing with partner organizations or obtaining feedback from individuals with lived stroke experience, Sacha's emphasis on human connection is consistently evident in her work.
"Sacha's leadership has instilled a sense of calm, courage and strength that enables us all to sparkle as we address system challenges and design better stroke systems for our providers, patients and families. This person-centred approach has created the most high-functioning, motivated and innovative team I have had the privilege of being a part of," says Sandy Steinwender, lead, Clinical Initiatives and Innovation at Stroke Services BC.
Even though her team is dispersed across the province, Sacha stresses the importance of staying connected, communicating openly and being collaborative to create a positive and productive work environment. The culture that she fosters within Stroke Services BC (SSBC) has translated to optimized stroke patient outcomes and experiences.
Relationship building and open communication are often at the core of stroke care's best practices, making Sacha's leadership style a well-suited match for SSBC and their objectives. Under her leadership, multiple SSBC projects have received awards and recognition from Health Quality BC and national conferences, as well as grant funding from the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
"Some of the best parts about working at SSBC are the connections we build, and the opportunities to listen to people, to understand what they need and how we can collaborate to make things better. We work with the most incredible people that I’m so lucky to learn from, including my team, PHSA colleagues, our partners and people with lived experience," shares Sacha.
Congratulations to Sacha on her Outstanding Leadership PHSA+ Award!
The PHSA+ Awards are part of an internal recognition program that celebrates teams and individuals who bring our purpose, vision, values and Coast Salish teachings to life in the workplace. They go above and beyond to serve patients and families across B.C.
