Research Infosource, a leading Canadian research, consulting, and publishing firm, has named PHSA as sixth overall in its annual "Top 40 Research Hospitals" list, and seventh in its "Top 10 Research Hospitals by Growth" list.
The ranking information is based on expenditures across PHSA's research enterprise, including its five research institutes and its corporate areas.
Rankings were calculated based upon the 2019-2020 fiscal year. PHSA has risen one place, from seventh in its overall ranking from the previous year. PHSA was also ranked seventh in spending growth, with a 14 per cent increase in investment for research in 2019-2020.
In additional recognition, PHSA was ranked 16th nationally for spending per researcher ($1,864,000) and 13th for research spending as a percentage of total hospital spending (four per cent).
"PHSA's standing on Canada's Top 40 Research Hospitals listing reflects our role as one of Canada's largest academic health science organizations," says Ellen Chesney, Chief Administrative Officer of PHSA Research. "That standing also reflects our fundamental mandate to conduct world-class research, and to translate that research to improve patient care and the health care system."
