BC Cancer

BC Cancer delivers a comprehensive provincial cancer control program in partnership with regional health authorities across British Columbia. Its mandate spans prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, supportive care and survivorship.

Research is central to BC Cancer’s mission, advancing new knowledge to improve patient outcomes, extend survival and enhance quality of life.​

BC Cancer Research Institute

The BC Cancer Research Institute leads BC Cancer’s research enterprise, supporting scientific investigation into the causes of cancer and innovations in prevention, detection and treatment.
Researchers work across laboratory, clinical and population-based domains at regional centres and research facilities throughout British Columbia. Through discovery science, translational research and clinical trials, the Institute accelerates the integration of new evidence into cancer care across the province.

BC Centre for Disease Control

​​The BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) advances public health through applied and population-based research that informs disease prevention, surveillance and response across British Columbia.

BCCDC Research​

BCCDC Research advances applied and population-based public health research to address infectious diseases, chronic conditions and environmental health risks.

Integratin​g epidemiology, laboratory science, clinical investigation and data analytics, BCCDC generates evidence that informs disease prevention strategies, strengthens health system response and contributes to national and global public health knowledge. Through close alignment with frontline public health operations, research findings are rapidly translated into policy and practice across the province.

BC Children’s Hospital​ and Sunny Hill Health Centre​​

​BC Children’s Hospital and Sunny Hill Health Centre advance child and youth health through integrated clinical and research excellence across British Columbia.

Research activities are led through the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute, supporting discovery, innovation and evidence-informed care for children, youth and families in BC and internationally.

​BC Children's Hospital Research Institute

​The BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute leads the research enterprise supporting BC Children’s and Sunny Hill. Dedicated to advancing knowledge in children’s and women’s health, the Institute brings together scientists, clinicians and trainees across a broad range of disciplines. It is the largest research institute of its kind in Western Canada. 

Research conducted through the Institute spans discovery science, clinical research and health systems innovation in areas such as childhood diseases, brain and developmental health, early life research and translational science that moves evidence into practice.​

BC Emergency Health Services

​​BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) delivers provincial ambulance and emergency medical services across British Columbia.

BCEHS Research​

Working in collaboration with regional, national and international partners, BCEHS conducts clinical and systems-level research focused on emergency response, resuscitation science and severe traumatic injury. BCEHS also participates in the Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium, an international clinical trial network studying pre-hospital cardiopulmonary arrest and major trauma.

BC Mental Health & Substance Use Services

​​BC Mental Health & Substance Use Services (BCMHSUS) provides specialized care for individuals across British Columbia with complex mental health and substance use needs, including forensic and  people who have been referred by the courts for assessment and treatment.

BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services Research Institute

The BCMHSUS Research Institute leads research that addresses complex mental health and substance use challenges through clinical, population and systems-level investigation.

Its research focuses on severe mental illness, addiction, forensic mental health and the intersection of health and the justice system. Through strong academic partnerships and an emphasis on knowledge translation, the Institute supports evidence-informed practice and system transformation across British Columbia.​

BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre

​​BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre provides specialized care for women, newborns and families across British Columbia, including high-risk pregnancies and complex reproductive health services.

Research is central to advancing women’s and newborn health, improving clinical care, reducing health inequities and informing evidence-based practice across the province.

Women’s Health Research Institute

The Women’s Health Research Institute (WHRI) leads research embedded within BC Women’s Hospital, supporting discovery, clinical innovation and population health research across the lifespan.

Research spans reproductive health, maternal and newborn care, infectious diseases, genomics, prevention strategies and health equity. Through strong academic partnerships and collaborative networks, WHRI advances knowledge that improves health outcomes for women and families in British Columbia and beyond.

WHRI collaborates with provincial and national partners, including the British Columbia Centre of Excellence for Women’s Health.​

BC Renal

​​BC Renal leads the provincial kidney care program, working in partnership with regional health authorities to improve outcomes and quality of life for people living with kidney disease across British Columbia.​

BC Renal Research

BC Renal Research supports clinical and health services research focused on improving kidney disease prevention, treatment and long-term patient outcomes.
Research activities include evaluation of care delivery models, assessment of new and emerging therapies and the use of real-world data to inform best practices in nephrology. Through provincial clinical networks and integrated data systems, BC Renal translates research findings into care improvements across the kidney care continuum.​

BC Transplant

​​BC Transplant leads the provincial organ donation and transplantation program in British Columbia, coordinating all aspects of transplant care from donor management to long-term post-transplant follow-up.

BC Transplant Research​

BC Transplant Research supports clinical and translational research focused on immunology, graft outcomes, organ preservation, donation science and long-term transplant care.

Research activities span laboratory investigation, clinical trials and health systems research, as well as exploration of the ethical and social dimensions of organ donation and transplantation. Through collaboration with academic and clinical partners, BC Transplant integrates research findings into care delivery to enhance patient outcomes and system performance across British Columbia.

Cardiac Services BC Research supports health services and outcomes research focused on improving the quality, accessibility and performance of cardiac care.

​Through provincial clinical registries and data systems, Cardiac Services BC generates evidence to evaluate procedures, monitor outcomes and inform system-level improvements in cardiovascular services. This work advances evidence-based practice and supports continuous quality improvement across British Columbia’s cardiac care network.​​

​​Perinatal Services BC (PSBC) provides provincial leadership across the continuum of maternal, fetal and newborn care, supporting system planning, clinical standards and quality improvement in British Columbia.

Perinatal Services BC Research​

Perinatal Services BC Research supports population-based and health services research focused on improving maternal, fetal and neonatal outcomes.

Through the BC Perinatal Data Registry and provincial clinical networks, PSBC generates and analyzes comprehensive perinatal data to inform surveillance, program evaluation and system-level improvement. This work strengthens evidence-based policy, enhances quality of care and supports continuous improvement in perinatal services across British Columbia.
