BEACON is a 24-month leadership program for PHSA medical staff. This program provides comprehensive and practical leadership training for current and future leaders, and aims to bring the PHSA vision and North Star priorities to life.
The program builds from a culture of learning and collaboration. It helps medical staff develop skills in well-being, communication, and conflict management so they can lead change and handle complex challenges in their work.
BEACON is designed to better support medical staff in shaping the health system—not just delivering care within it. The program builds leadership skills through hands-on learning, mentorship, and real-world projects. Participants explore key themes like Indigenous knowledge, truth and reconciliation, health equity, and systems leadership, helping them grow as future-ready leaders who can drive meaningful change across B.C.’s health care system.
BEACON includes seven in-person modules, each two days long, supported by mentorship, hands-on learning, project work, and additional workshops.
Cohort 2 began in March 2026 and is currently underway.
Nominations for BEACON Cohort 3 are expected to open in summer 2027. Please check back closer to the nomination period for more information.
Nominees are typically early- or mid-career medical staff leaders and are expected to have completed the following prerequisites:
- Anti-Indigenous Racism Response Training
- San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Program, completed or currently enrolled
Submitted nominations are reviewed by a selection committee. Shortlisted nominees are invited to submit a formal application, including a cover letter and CV. Final cohort decisions are made based on the application and selection process.
