Impact Through Partnership

PHSA recognizes the vital role medical staff play in shaping the future of health care. Through collaborative committees and programs, medical staff work with the provincial government and other partners to strengthen health care systems across BC.

These partnerships ensure medical staff voices are recognized and amplified in system-level decisions, showing that meaningful impact is achieved collectively and that their participation drives tangible improvements in quality, equity, and patient care.

Health system redesign

Health System Redesign provides funding for physicians to actively shape health service improvements.

By supporting physician involvement in planning, decision-making and implementation, HSR helps ensure care is safe, patient-centred and efficient. Projects focus on priority populations and areas such as surgery and end-of-life care, while also offering physicians opportunities for collaboration, professional growth and leadership in health system transformation.

Shared Care projects

The Shared Care Committee supports physicians and partners to work together on projects across BC that strengthen coordination between family practice and specialist care. These projects are innovation-focused and provide one-time funding to support new ideas that improve collaboration between family physicians and specialists.

For more information on how to access funding, visit the Shared Care website. To find out more about the various projects happening across PHSA contact our PHSA team at PQI@phsa.ca.

Quality improvement

Quality improvement (QI) helps medical staff strengthen patient safety, outcomes, experience, efficiency, and equity. It empowers frontline teams to identify issues, test solutions, and use data to measure impact—building a culture of continuous learning and accountability across care settings.
Spreading Quality Improvement:
Spreading Quality Improvement builds on the skills and projects developed through Physician Quality Improvement (PQI). While PQI helps physicians and medical staff learn quality improvement methods and test new ideas, SQI focuses on taking those successful projects and expanding them to other teams, sites, or programs.

Advanced Quality Improvement:
The Advanced Quality Improvement program brings together QI-trained medical staff (QI alumni) to keep learning, sharing, and leading change. It builds skills through advanced training, mentorship, and learning opportunities, while offering access to coaching and resources. AQI helps alumni spread successful projects, support health system priorities, and improve care for patients and families.
Provincial Physician QI Coaching Program
The Provincial Physician QI Coaching Program connects physicians leading quality improvement (QI) projects with trained coaches who provide peer support and guidance. Coaching helps build skills, confidence, and capacity to drive successful QI initiatives.
