Quality improvement (QI) helps medical staff strengthen patient safety, outcomes, experience, efficiency, and equity. It empowers frontline teams to identify issues, test solutions, and use data to measure impact—building a culture of continuous learning and accountability across care settings.
Spreading Quality Improvement builds on the skills and projects developed through
Physician Quality Improvement (PQI). While PQI helps physicians and medical staff learn quality improvement methods and test new ideas, SQI focuses on taking those successful projects and expanding them to other teams, sites, or programs.
For examples of the Spreading Quality Improvement projects happening here at PHSA, check out
this story.
The Advanced Quality Improvement program brings together QI-trained medical staff (QI alumni) to keep learning, sharing, and leading change. It builds skills through advanced training, mentorship, and learning opportunities, while offering access to coaching and resources. AQI helps alumni spread successful projects, support health system priorities, and improve care for patients and families.
The Provincial
Physician QI Coaching Program connects physicians leading quality improvement (QI) projects with trained coaches who provide peer support and guidance. Coaching helps build skills, confidence, and capacity to drive successful QI initiatives.
