Advanced Gender-Affirming Primary Care
These trainings offered via Zoom are aimed at physicians and nurse practitioners looking to provide gender-affirming primary care.
Before attending the training please ensure that you have completed the following free online modules:
Part 1: Care planning for gender-affirming interventions (readiness assessment)

Learning objectives:
- Use an informed consent, trauma informed approach to care planning for gender-affirming interventions and understand why this is necessary
- Respectfully inquire about gender and support exploration of gender-affirming goals and options
- Apply the WPATH criteria
- Conduct and document treatment planning visits
- Know where to seek out additional clinical support and resources
CME Accreditation: 3 Mainpro+ credits

Learning objectives:- Participate in informed consent discussions with patients seeking hormone therapy
- Confirm readiness for hormone therapy from a physical, mental, and psychosocial perspective (either directly or with collateral from other providers)
- Initiate, titrate, and monitor hormone therapy
- Manage side effects and other common concerns for patients on hormone therapy
- Know where to seek out additional clinical support and resources

Learning objectives:

Understand the role of the primary care provider in supporting access to gender-affirming surgery
- Be aware of the WPATH criteria for upper surgery, gonadectomy and genital reconstruction
- Know which surgeries are covered by MSP and pathways to surgery for each funded procedure
- Describe common gender-affirming procedures including techniques, potential benefits and risks, common complications, aftercare considerations
- Know where to seek out additional clinical support and resources
