Diagnosis Prioritization Codes Review Project

Surgeons are invited to shape the future of surgical care in BC.

The BC Diagnosis Prioritization Codes Review Project is a province-wide initiative to review and update all surgical and GI endoscopy diagnosis-based prioritization wait time targets in BC. The goal of the project is to ensure accurate, equitable and clinically appropriate wait time benchmarks for all scheduled surgeries and to support transparent and consistent prioritization across all surgical specialties and health authorities.

Review process

The project takes place from October 2025 to April 2026 and includes a comprehensive review of all BC Diagnostic Codes across surgical specialties for adults and pediatrics, and updating code sets as required.

The process will involve revising some existing code descriptions, potentially removing outdated codes and creating some new codes aligned with evidence-based practice and urgency/priority methodology.
Get involved
The project and specialty-specific code review process requires the insights and expertise of practicing surgeons in BC.

Renumeration from the Specialist Services Committee will be provided to surgeons who participate in specialty working groups.
