Today, on National Indigenous Peoples Day, Trans Care BC stands in solidarity and celebration with Indigenous peoples. We especially celebrate
Two-Spirit, trans, and gender diverse Indigenous people and continue to be committed to working alongside community members to improve access to culturally safer trans health care across the province.
In light of recent allegations of systemic racism against Indigenous People in B.C. hospitals, we join Indigenous and health care leaders in fully supporting the provincial investigation announced this past Friday on the issue: https://news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2020HLTH0198-001115
Before colonization, Two-Spirit people were included and respected as valued community members in many Indigenous nations, often holding revered roles such as healers, matchmakers, and counsellors, among many others. As part of colonization, there has been an attempted erasure of Two-Spirit people.
Racism and discrimination have no place in our hospitals, our workplaces, or our society.
