On June 19, 2020, B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix appointed Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond to lead an independent investigation into allegations of racism in the province's health care system. The goal of the investigation is to inquire into and report on alleged incidents of Indigenous-specific racism in Emergency departments in B.C., situated and examined within a broader context of Indigenous-specific systemic racism in the provincial health care system.

PHSA is deeply committed to equity in healthcare. We fully support the provincial investigation announced by Minister Adrian Dix and are committed to working with the Ministry of Health and Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond on this issue. We will be an active partner in collaboratively addressing any recommendations the investigation yields.

We invite all Indigenous people, especially those who are Two-Spirit, gender diverse, and transgender, to contribute to the investigation by sharing your experiences in B.C.'s health care system. You can share your experience through a survey, email, or phone call here: https://engage.gov.bc.ca/addressingracism
