This joint initiative aims to clarify information security requirements and enable cross-institutional research.
In recognition of the difficulty encountered by researchers in navigating information security requirements when engaging in research across PHSA, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) and UBC sites, PHSA and UBC are collaborating on an initiative to map UBC’s and IMITS' (Information Managment/Information Technology Services - which serves VCH, Providence Health Care and PHSA “VPP”) information security standards and policies that impact research.
The initiative intends to assess the alignment and equivalency of information technology controls, standards and policies pertaining to research with the goal of developing a common and sustainable approach to ensuring compliance across the organizations. It is hoped that by standardizing our information security approaches, or at least identifying why differences exist, that this will provide clarity that helps the research community understand and meet security requirements.
The work is anticipated to be completed by April 2017. Project sponsors include: Ellen Chesney (Chief Admin Officer, Research, PHSA), Oliver Grüter-Andrew (CIO, PHSA), Jennifer Burns (CIO, UBC), Helen Burt (VP Research, UBC) and Michael Shakespeare (ED, Finance & Operations, FoM, UBC).
