Affinity, the team building the Teck Acute Care Centre at BC Children's Hospital, wins the 2015 NAOSH award for excellence in health and safety promotion.
Congratulations to the Affinity team—the joint partnership between Balfour Beatty and Ledcor, responsible for building the Teck Acute Care Centre at BC Children's Hospital—on winning the 2015 North American Occupational Safety and Health award. The award recognizes Affinity’s hard work and dedication to communicating the importance of safety and health on the job. It is presented by the BC chapter of the North American Occupational Safety and Health Week Steering Committee and recognizes excellence in occupational health and safety leadership in BC.
NAOSH Week began almost twenty years ago to promote injury and illness prevention in the workplace. It’s celebrated across Canada, the US and Mexico.
Safety is at the forefront of everything Affinity does. To celebrate NOASH Week, Affinity held events everyday highlighting safe work practices. Demonstrations from vendors were held on Hilti dustless concrete grinding and drilling systems, fall protection, hearing testing (in keeping with our hearing conservation plan), and the latest and greatest of what is available for personal protective equipment, gloves, glasses, work wear etc. We wrapped the whole week up with a trade appreciation barbecue.
Affinity is highly committed to construction safety and is continuously improving safety effectiveness onsite. NAOSH Week gave Affinity the opportunity to reinforce values that are reflected in their corporate culture. As Pat Duggan, General Manager, Affinity Partnerships, says, “Winning the NAOSH Safety Award truly demonstrates the dedication and commitment to health and safety that the team delivers each and every day and I am so proud to be part of this winning team.”
The Affinity team realizes that health and safety on the job is a joint effort. As Karen McRae, the group’s Safety Manager says, “The Affinity safety team would like to express our gratitude to our vendors: Capital Safety, DB Sala, Ono Safety, Hilti, and Reliable Hearing Testing for their time and efforts setting up displays and bringing their products to site. We would also like to recognize Document Control Jane Dellomes, Deputy Construction Manager Dana Buchart, and our very own grill master from Texas General Superintendent Billy Bryan, for their hard work helping make the barbeque such a success.”
Congratulations team on your exemplary efforts and keep up the good work.
