Phase 1 (Complete)

Expansion and Relocation (2010 - 2014)

  • Providing three new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) beds

  • Constructing the new Clinical Support Building
  • Relocating programs to renovated spaces in the Ambulatory Care Building, Shaughnessy Building or new Clinical Support Building 

  • Relocating some programs and office space to leased premises off-site
  • Providing additional space for the UBC Faculty of Medicine  

  • Constructing new Djavad Mowafaghian Child Care Centre

Nearly 140 programs and services were moved to accommodate the Teck Acute Care Centre construction. All outpatient clinics, such as Plastic Surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics and others were relocated to newly designed spaces.

Phase 2 (Complete)

Teck Acute Care Centre (2014 - 2017)

Designing and constructing the new Teck Acute Care Centre at BC Children's Hospital which includes:

  • New space for: Emergency, Medical Imaging and Minor Procedures Suites, Neonatal ICU (NICU) and Pediatric ICU (PICU), Renal Dialysis Unit, High Risk Labour and Delivery, Major Procedures Suites, Medical and Surgical Inpatient Units, Oncology/Hematology/Bone Marrow Transplant Program, Anesthetic Care Unit, Milk Handling Room and Transfusion Medicine
  • 231 private inpatient rooms
  • 87 outpatient beds
  • Locating Oncology Outpatient Unit on same floor as Inpatient Unit
  • Two Satellite Pharmacies and Sterile Medical Device Processing Department
  • New clinical education and research space
  • 180 new underground  + 120 surface parking spaces
  • Completing site work such as landscaping, adjustments to surface parking and access routes, pedestrian pathways and constructing a new atrium

Urgent Care Centre (2014 - 2017)

  • Renovations to the BC Women's Assessment Room/Urgent Care Centre in the BC Women's Hospital main building which are being done through a separate construction management agreement
Phase 3 (Underway)

Reimagine, Relocate, Expand (2017 - 2019)

  • Renovate BC Children’s Hospital former main building
  • Relocate Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children to the main hospital campus (Oak Street) from its current location in east Vancouver (Slocan Street)
  • Create 10 additional single room birthing suites at BC Women's Hospital + Health Centre
  • Relocate and renovate additional maternal care units within BC Women's Hospital + Health Centre
