The SPR provides a reliable and consistent approach for prioritizing surgeries on a wait list via one central registry.
The BC Surgical Patient Registry (SPR) is a provincial program involving five regional Health Authorities, the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) and the Ministry of Health (MoH).
The SPR provides a reliable and consistent approach for prioritizing patients access to surgery. Operating room booking data from all BC surgical facilities is entered daily into the registry. This provides the most up to date information on patients booked for surgery and those who have had their surgery performed. SPR tracks patients waiting for surgery in BC and provides information to evaluate and monitor surgical wait times in the province.
SPR Communications Backgrounder
The PHSA maintains the SPR and provides data to the MoH for reporting on the MOH public website
For Health Care Professionals, the SPR provides a reporting portal accessible through each HA computer system. This level of access provides detailed waitlist data to manage surgical access and resources.
Surgeons can also access their waitlist and view provincial summary waitlist data.
