PHSA celebrates National Nursing Week

Nursing Week 2016 PHSA
This week is National Nursing Week, and PHSA is celebrating our nursing professionals for their dedication and commitment to providing high quality patient care at every stage of the health care journey.

The Canadian Nurses Association reports there are more than 406,000 registered nurses in Canada. More than 2,900 nursing professionals make up PHSA’s nursing community, with practice areas across agencies, programs and services, from clinical settings and education, to management, research and leadership.

Here’s what some of the nurses at various PHSA agencies have to say about their experiences in the nursing profession:

“One of the best things about nursing is the variety within one profession; it just opens up so many doors at once. You can do travel nursing, you can teach, you can work in an office as an occupational nurse, you can be in the operating room or in the community working in primary health care or even remote nursing – it’s really endless.” - Natasha ProdanBhalla, Nurse Practitioner, BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre and Collaborative Practice Leader

“Witnessing the change that happens in health issues makes my work truly fulfilling and meaningful on various levels. The profound impact this work has on me as an individual and my nursing practice is just a bonus. I can't explain how great it feels to be able to combine my nursing knowledge and my life experience as a First Nations woman to help other aboriginal people and communities.” - Amanda Porter, Aboriginal Nurse Educator, Chee Mamuk, Clinical Prevention Services, BC Centre for Disease Control

“In nursing school I was always intrigued by a nursing career in the operating room (OR). After an opportunity to observe the OR at BC Children’s Hospital, I knew that was where I wanted to begin my nursing career. I am proud to work in the OR at Children’s because I feel part of a cohesive team that works collaboratively to make an incredible difference in the lives of children and families across the province.” – Operating Room Nurse, BC Children’s Hospital

A sincere thank you to everyone in a nursing profession, for the work you do, and the compassion and commitment you bring each and every day to our patients and families. It is an honour to have you as a part of our health care team across PHSA.

If you’re a nurse interested in joining a world-class team, please join PHSA and BC Children’s Hospital’s Operating Room for an open house for all new nursing students, new grads and experienced nurses on Thursday May 19, 2016. More details about the perioperative nursing open house can be found in this invitation.
