You can now find a wealth of information about cardiac illness on the new Cardiac Services BC website, www.CardiacBC.ca
. Geared towards patients, the public and health care professionals, the new site is compatible with mobile devices so information is available when and where people need it.
Cardiac Services BC works with BC’s regional health authorities to provide oversight, coordination, care, support, education and awareness to heart patients and their families, medical professionals, students and other stakeholders throughout the province.
While cardiovascular disease – heart disease, blood vessel disease and stroke – is the number one cause of death for Canadians, improved health behaviours, treatment options and management of illness have all contributed to falling mortality rates due to heart disease in BC.
Cardiac Services BC works to ensure that all British Columbians have access to the best possible cardiac care. Mortality in BC due to heart disease has dropped from 13.4 per 10,000 people in 2001 to 7.8 per 10,000 people in 2011. As well, British Columbia boasts one of the lowest rates of heart disease in the country with only 3.1 per cent of the population affected (2011/12).
