Four PHSA agencies have been recognized in the 2016 BC Quality Awards!
The BC Quality Awards are presented by the BC Patient Safety and Quality Council and celebrate extraordinary work in our health system. Launched in 2009, the awards recognize individuals, teams and facilities that have improved the quality of care in BC. They also raise the overall profile of efforts to improve quality throughout the province.
This year, the Provincial Blood Coordinating Office
(PBCO) and the Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre
Health Literacy team at BC Children’s Hospital won awards in the Living with Illness
and Staying Healthy
categories, respectively. PBCO’s innovative iCHIP app
is the first and only application of its kind in North America, supporting the unique clinical care needs of patients with genetic blood disorders. BC Children’s Hospital’s Mental Health Literacy team’s commitment to providing a variety of free information, support and resources has enhanced mental health literacy for children, youth, women and families.
Two other agencies also received runner-up accolades in the Quality Awards – Gina MacKenzie from the BC Cancer Agency
, and the Psychiatric Genetic Counselling Clinic at BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre
. Gina’s work in implementing a series of initiatives to detect, treat, and gather data on mental health crises among BC Cancer Agency patients made her a runner-up in the Leadership in Quality
category, while the Genetic Counselling Clinic at BC Women’s earned a runner-up mention in the Living with Illness
category as the first clinic in the world to offer genetic counseling services to patients living with psychiatric illness and their families, providing services to more than 400 families to date and training other clinicians from around the globe.
Winners will be awarded a $2,500 sponsorship to help support or disseminate learning from their projects, and will be presented plaques in a ceremony at Health Talks
on February 24, 2016.
Congratulations to all the winners and runner-ups – your work is inspiring!
