In 2011, BC undertook a survey of inpatients at 78 acute care hospitals to ask for feedback about their experiences with the care and services they received while in hospital. The survey is the third of its kind in BC; the last survey was conducted in 2008.
The survey was mailed to 36,387 randomly selected medical, surgical, maternity and pediatric inpatients discharged from one of 78 acute care hospitals between Oct. 1, 2011 and March 31, 2012. Parents/guardians received surveys for children under the age of 13; youth aged 13-16 received surveys in their own name.
For the province as a whole, 92% of respondents said that the quality of their care and services in a BC acute care hospital was “excellent, very good or good”.
PHSA-specific survey results confirm that respondents were generally very pleased with the care we provided, In fact, for PHSA, 98.3% said the overall care they received was good, very good or excellent, the highest score in the province. This is an increase from 96.8% in 2008.
