PHSA's Centres for Population & Public Health
In Spring, 2009, PHSA established nine Centres for Population and Public Health (CPPH) to provide a mechanism for PHSA to internally coordinate prevention activities and link with external agencies to address issues across the province. As the CPPH evolved, the Population and Public Health Program - see below - has evolved from a program team to a team that supports the Centres model.
PHSA’s Population and Public Health Program
From 2005 to April 2009, PHSA’s Population and Public Health (PPH) Program supported PHSA agencies, BC health authorities, government and others by leading and facilitating responses to emerging population and public health issues. It focused on knowledge generation, synthesis, transfer and exchange to inform and improve chronic disease policy and practice in BC.
This website provides information on the PPH Program’s activities as follows:
- Core Programs: implementing the Ministry of Healthy Living and Sports’ core programs across our agencies and overseeing cross-program functions provincially
- Food Security: providing provincial support and leadership to increase food security in BC
- Healthy Built Environment: coordinating provincial, cross-sector activities for healthier, more liveable communities
- Surveillance and Health Indicator Reports: identifying population and public health indicators, gathering and synthesizing health-related evidence and data, and producing reports for PPH initiatives as well as for other projects.
PHSA is also a member of the provincial Primary Health Care Council and coordinates initiatives and projects related to Primary Health Care and Shared Care.
