Is it possible to webcast a presentation from an offsite location such as a hotel or conference centre?

Streaming from a non-PHSA location is possible. We would need to evaluate the external site to ensure stability of service. Extra charges apply.

How many viewers can watch a live website simultaneously?

Up to 50 viewers can watch a live streaming webcast. If you would like to give more viewers access, please notify Media Production & Services in 2 weeks in advance so that arrangements can be made to increase access. Extra charges apply.

Do I need to get consent from my presenters to webcast their presentation?

Yes, it is the responsibility of the organizer of the event to inform and gain consent from all presenters for their online participation. All presenters should be made aware that the live webcast presentation is fed through a US server and presentations captured for On Demand viewing are stored on a US server and is, therefore, subject to US Law including Homeland Security provisions.

What about copyright?

It is the responsibility of the organizers of the event to ensure that the presenters are either the sole owner of copyright of the content they are producing/creating during the presention or that they have acquired all necessary permissions/licenses to include the content in the presentation. For more information see Copyright for Electronic Presentations.

What about privacy?

It is the responsibility of the organizers of the event to ensure that the presenters comply with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act of BC. If the presentation contains patient information, contact the Coordinator/Manager of Health Information Management or Release of Information office in your agency to learn about specific procedures on the handling and release of patient information.

What does the US Homeland Security Warning mean for my viewers?

Currently, all of the Mediasite presentations are housed on an American server. American servers are subject to American Law, including Homeland Security provisions. When a VIEWER watches one of our presentations, the viewers' IP address is the only information that is stored in the Mediasite database. It is used by Media Production & Services at PHSA for statistical purposes only.

An IP address is a computer's unique address on the internet.  All PHSA computers have a single IP address. This means that individual viewers cannot be personally identified. Viewers watching from home may have a dynamic or static IP address. A static IP address is a number that is assigned to a computer by an internet provider to be a computer's permenant address on the internet. A dynamic IP address is a temporary number assigned to a computer. Most people have the latter. Home viewers can check with their internet service provider to find out which they are using.
