Hearing Services for Older Children & Adults
The services provided to families of infants through the BC Early Hearing Screening Program are part of a broader continuum of hearing screening services provided for older children and adults at public health audiology clinics throughout British Columbia.
Staff at public health audiology clinics work with individual clients, professionals and agencies to identify children and eligible adults who are hard of hearing or deaf, and provide follow up services as needed.
Services provided include:
- Assessment and monitoring of hearing levels
- Client, caregiver counseling and education
- Evaluation and fitting of hearing aid(s) and other hearing assistive devices
- School / preschool liaison and direct student support
- General information about hearing and hearing services
Accessing services:
- Parents of preschool children can call their local public health audiology clinic directly for an appointment.
- Referrals from public health nurses, speech language pathologist, physicians, and other community agencies / professionals are accepted for both children and eligible adult clients.
