Outpatient Cancer Survey
Cancer outpatient care
The provincial survey supports accountability and is part of BC’s commitment to support and promote quality service improvement throughout our health care system.
Survey respondents were people who have received chemotherapy and/or radiation outpatient therapy from 50 participating BC facilities in 2006. A total of 6,974 responses were received for a response rate of 60.1 percent.
The survey report shows 97.1 per cent of respondents rate the quality of their overall care as good, very good or excellent.
Patients ratings of their satisfaction with access to care in B.C. are significantly higher (average scores: 75.8% vs. 73.5%) than the Canadian benchmark score.
Patients rated physical comfort highest and gave high marks to being treated with dignity and respect by outpatient providers. Patients noted there is room for improvement in areas such as emotional support and providing information.
